We were originally approached by the International & Private Schools Education Forum (IPSEF) to evaluate their website. Our brief was to identify how we could help improve the performance of the site on search engines. We were also asked to enhance the delegate experience when using the website. With enhanced user experience, it was hoped that it would lead to more delegate bookings for this world class event. At the same time, any changes we made needed to reflect the original creative look.
We started by carrying out a site audit to determine the structure of the site content. One of our recommendations was to create a database driven speaker profile section to ensure that there were no duplications. This had the added benefit of allowing us to add extra variables, such as events that each speaker had attended.
We also determined that the core structure of the site could be improved to help with navigation. Our suggestion was to create a chronological structure, so once an event had been created, it never needed to move.
On-Brand Website Redesign
With some significant changes being made to the site, we took the opportunity to give the site a design refresh. We gave it a more modern look and feel, whilst staying true to the original IPSEF brand. And, importantly, we redesigned the navigation, making it easier for users to find their way around the site.
At the same time, we restructured the whole site, making it not only easier to navigate, but easier to update. We also added search functionality to the newly structured, database driven speaker section. Users can now search for speakers either by event or by speaker name.
301 Redirects
When restructuring a website of this size, many of the URL’s will undoubtedly need to change. To maintain authority with search engines and to prevent dead links, we add 301 redirects. This is a very necessary part of the process. It ensures that anyone visiting an old URL will be seamlessly directed to the new corresponding web page.
We do this by running a scan of all URL’s on the old site and on the new development site. We can then create a comprehensive spreadsheet with the old URL’s and the new corresponding URL’s. By uploading the spreadsheet, we can be confident that any old URL’s will simply be forwarded the new version of the page that we have created.
