SEO Best Practices
We didn’t carry out any keyword research, competitor research or targeted SEO on this project. What we did do though, is to ensure that we followed all the core SEO best practices. This is something that we do with all the websites that we build. SEO is inherent in what we do, so we make sure we cover the basics as we go.
One of the core things we do is to ensure that every page has good quality meta data in place. We also ensure that each page has a good ‘h-tag’ hierarchy and that all images have good quality alt tags. So, we may not have implemented any targeted SEO, but we’re quite pleased with how this website is performing. It has only been live for a couple of months but is already ranking for some of the search terms.
Photoshopping
Judging by the photographs that Coleridge Flint supplied us, they are clearly very accomplished builders. However, judging by some of those same images, they won’t be winning many photography awards. So, we took it upon ourselves to do a little bit of tidying up in Photoshop. Hoses and tools left on the patio were removed and iron gates leaning against walls were edited out. With any website we build, unless the images have been taken by a professional photographer, we will likely make some edits. Usually, it’s just a case of tweaking the levels or curves to correct for exposure. But sometimes we have to do a little bit of tidying up too!

Copywriting
The Coleridge Flint team were busy renovating period houses, so they asked us to write their copy for them. We had a long phone call and asked lots of questions to get all the information we needed. As you can probably tell if you are still reading this, we like to go on a bit! However, our brief for this project was to take a more minimalist approach.
We explained that although fewer words might look nicer on the page, it’s not ideal for SEO. So, in the end, we split the difference and reached a happy compromise.
Once the client was happy, we did all of our usual accessibility and SEO checks and pushed the site live.
